F1 in Schools to expand to Miami with 2022 Grand Prix
F1 in Schools will expand to Miami with the announcement that the city will host F1 races from 2022.
It is part of a US$5m community benefits program put forward by Formula 1.
There will also be “behind-the-scenes learning tours for students and interaction with the motorsports teams at the event”, a city council proposal says.
The 2022 Miami Grand Prix will become the second US race on the F1 calendar, with the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas hosting the US Grand Prix.
Expanding Formula 1 in the US has long been a priority for owners Liberty Media since taking over from Bernie Ecclestone in 2017.
Some local residents have expressed their opposition to the race, with the Miami Gardens city council hearing two hours of complaints on Wednesday before eventually voting in favour of holding the race.
The new race location could be a new venue option for F1 in Schools World Finals, when in person events resume.
